Alison has been involved in developing and leading CPD for teachers across the region for over 30 years, and has recently led training programmes for Pathfinder on aspects of adaptive teaching and practical approaches to applying an understanding of cognitive science in the classroom. This sequence of stand-alone Zoom Shorts takes aspects of the ECF training, Pathfinder Adaptive Teaching and WalkThru programmes and explores them in more detail.
Session overview
Cold calling or ‘no hands up’ is a key strategy to increase pupil involvement in lessons and to help teachers make better minute by minute assessments of the impact of teaching, and when or how to move on in their lessons. This one hour online session will cover the why and how of this approach, then focus on practical approaches to ensuring all pupils are supported to take part, and understanding can be explored while using lesson time efficiently.
Session aims
Delegates will gain:
- a deeper understanding of the moral and pedagogical context for cold calling
- a range of strategies to ensure all pupils answer all key questions n lessons
- a range of strategies to support pupils who are reluctant to contribute, or may be frustrated not to be heard
