Who is this conference for?

This conference is suitable for ITTE mentors with all levels of experience who intend to host a trainee in the 2024/25 academic year. The conference has been approved, designed and will be delivered by all three local ITTE providers – Coast and Vale Learning Trust, York St John University, University of York – and is supported by Pathfinder Teaching School Hub.
Mentors can choose to attend one of the two dates available (10th June or 28th June) which will provide six of the 20 hours of training required for all ITTE mentors.

Programme aims and overview

The aim of the conference is to help foster greater quality and consistency in the practice of mentors by identifying the effective characteristics of mentoring, leading, in turn, to an improved and more coherent experience for trainees, so that they develop into effective teachers.

The conference will centre around five key areas:

  • Yourself as a mentor
  • Power of mentoring – the value of mentors in our region’s schools
  • Dialogic practice
  • Mental health and wellbeing/workload management
  • Lead mentor training

There is no charge for this conference.
In addition, schools can claim up to £876 for each mentor who mentors at least one trainee and completes 20 hours of training. This will be paid in arrears to the school and is in addition to the normal amount your school is paid for hosting a trainee.

Lunch is provided
