Session overview

This half day session gives Y2 teachers, and subject leaders responsible for assuring accuracy of school assessments, the opportunity to moderate together their assessment judgements of their pupils’ writing attainment. The course leader will provide guidance on standardisation and support moderation, and teachers will discuss their judgements with one another, looking at the evidence they have brought with them. Delegates should bring with them:

  • all the evidence underpinning their teacher assessment for writing for pupils whose assessments they wish to moderate
  • copies of the 2022-23 statutory assessment requirements

Session aims

  • Gain clarity on the national expectations at each standard within statutory assessment of writing at end of KS1;
  • Understand the evidence base of independent writing that underpins secure assessment judgements;
  • Check (and, if necessary, adjust) judgements, through professional, inter-school moderation discussions;
  • Identify final actions that can be taken to secure attainment before LA moderation and final submission of assessments.
